Switching from Nara Baby: How to Export and Import Data

Posted

A parent in a nursing chair glances at a phone while a baby sleeps on their back in a clear cot beside her.

If you are leaving Nara Baby, you don't have to start your baby's log again from day one. Nara exports each child's history as a CSV file, and Wake Wise imports that file for free. Your sleeps, feeds and nappies come across, and Wake Wise shows you a preview before it saves anything.

Key Takeaways

  • In Nara Baby, open the Activity screen, tap the avatar next to your child's name, then tap Export Data.
  • Nara makes one CSV file per child. Wake Wise tracks one baby, so export the file for the child you are tracking.
  • Nara's FAQ says you can still view and export your data if you don't subscribe.
  • In Wake Wise, go to Settings, then Your Data, then Import from Nara. Importing is free, and so is sleep tracking.
  • Sleeps, breastfeeds, bottle feeds and wet and dirty nappies come across. Pumping, solids, growth, medicine, milestones and dry nappies don't.

Why Parents Are Moving from Nara Baby

Since October 2026, Nara Baby has been a paid app, with a monthly plan and a lifetime plan. Nara's FAQ says families get a 7-day free trial, which starts when you log your first entry. After that, you can view and export what you logged, but you can't add new entries until you subscribe.

Nara is a good app, and plenty of families will stay. Others look for a Nara Baby alternative because they would rather track sleep without a subscription, or they only want a sleep tracker with a wake-window estimate.

Before you switch, check what Nara does that Wake Wise doesn't: more than one child, a partner or grandparent logging on their own phone, an Apple Watch app, an Android app, and tracking for solids, growth and medicine. If you rely on any of those, Wake Wise may not be the right fit.

What Wake Wise Includes

Wake Wise is a baby sleep tracker for iPhone, built around wake windows. Sleep tracking, the Lock Screen timer, starting and stopping a sleep with Siri, white noise and importing from Nara are free. You can see your imported feeds and nappies on the free version too.

Pro adds the next-sleep estimate, bedtime reminders, logging and editing feeds and nappies, widgets, weekly summaries, CSV export and the red light. You can buy it as a subscription or as a one-off Lifetime purchase. See everything Pro includes.

You don't need a Wake Wise account. When you are signed in to iCloud, your records sync through the private iCloud database linked to your Apple Account.

How to Export Your Data from Nara Baby

Steps 1 to 3 come from Nara's own FAQ. Nara makes one file per child, so export the file for the child you are tracking in Wake Wise.

  1. Open Nara Baby and go to the main Activity screen.
  2. Tap the avatar icon next to your child's name.
  3. Tap Export Data. Nara saves that child's data as a CSV file.
  4. Save the file to the Files app. If the Share menu opens, tap Save to Files, choose a folder such as iCloud Drive or On My iPhone, then tap Save.

How to Import Nara Data into Wake Wise

  1. Open Wake Wise and tap the Settings tab.
  2. Tap Your Data.
  3. Under Import, tap Import from Nara. The file picker opens.
  4. Choose the CSV file you saved from Nara. To find it, tap Browse, then open the folder you saved it to. If you closed the picker, tap Choose File.
  5. Check the names under Import into. If your baby's name in Wake Wise doesn't match the Nara profile name, Wake Wise asks you to check that the file is for the right baby.
  6. Check the counts under To import: sleeps (split into naps and night sleeps), breastfeeds, bottle feeds, and wet and dirty nappies, with the dates of the first and last entry. Anything left out is listed under Skipped, with the reason.
  7. Tap Import. Wake Wise saves nothing until you do. On iOS 26 and later, Import is the tick at the top right.
  8. When you see Import complete, tap Done. On iOS 26 and later, Done is also a tick at the top right.

Your imported history then shows in the log like entries you added yourself. With Pro, it also feeds into the next-sleep estimate, widgets and reminders.

What Comes Across and What Doesn't

Wake Wise imports:

  • Sleeps, with their start and end times. Wake Wise marks each one as a nap or a night sleep, using the Night Starts and Night Ends times in Settings.
  • Breastfeeds, with the side: left, right or both.
  • Bottle feeds, with the volume in ml or oz. Wake Wise doesn't keep the milk type or formula name.
  • Combo feeds, each split into one breastfeed and one bottle feed.
  • Wet and dirty nappies. A nappy that was both becomes one wet and one dirty.
  • The notes you added to these entries.

The preview lists everything else under Skipped, with the reason:

  • Pumping, solids, growth, medicine, routines, milestones, firsts and vaccines, shown as Not supported
  • Dry nappies
  • A sleep that was still running when you exported
  • Anything with a start time in the future
  • Anything that overlaps an entry of the same type already in Wake Wise
  • Anything you already imported, if it is still in Wake Wise
  • Any row Wake Wise couldn't read

Nara records a time zone for each entry, so Wake Wise doesn't ask you for one. If some entries were logged in another time zone, the preview tells you, and Wake Wise shows them in your phone's current time zone.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I export my Nara data without a subscription?

Yes. Nara's FAQ says that if you don't subscribe after the trial, or your subscription ends, you can still view and export your data. The export steps are the same.

Is importing from Nara free in Wake Wise?

Yes. Importing doesn't need Pro, and you can see the imported feeds and nappies in your log on the free version. Adding or editing feeds and nappies needs Pro.

What happens if I import the same file twice?

Wake Wise skips the entries it has already imported, as long as they are still in Wake Wise. If you export a newer file from Nara later, only the new entries are added. If you deleted an imported entry, importing the file again can add it back.

Will my Nara history change the next-sleep estimate?

With Pro and the age-based wake window method, it can. That estimate starts from your baby's age. Once there are at least six daytime wake windows from the last 14 days, it uses those too, and imported sleeps count like sleeps you log yourself. If your Nara export covers the last two weeks, the estimate can use it straight away. It is an estimate, so follow your baby's cues.
